1x Mumm Pinot Noir Pinot Noir 2022

Red — Pinot Noir

Central Otago — New Zealand

The first still wine from an utterly iconic, but apparently shy, Champagne house. This crew have access to some of the best pinot noir grapes in the entire world - Champagne is a part of Burgundy after all - it speaks volumes to the quality of the fruit that this famous producer decided to come half way around the world just to get their hands on the good stuff, Central Otago pinot. The wine is highly regional and varietal with a complex mouthfeel and flavours of black cherry, plum, graphite and forest floor. A subtle hint of French oak and silky tannins prolong the finish and send you back for another sip before you've even finished your first. This one's an absolute cracker.

You'd pay $80 full price.

1x Punch Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

Red — Pinot Noir

Yarra Valley — Australia

Halliday Wine Companion described this as "One of those wines that, when you drink your last bottle 6–10 years from now, you'll wish you had more of". We reckon that pretty much hits the nail on the head, complex and brooding yet bright and light-footed. Too good to drink, too good not to. A blessing and a curse! A 95pt Halliday rating and 4.1 Vivino score confirm what we already suspected, both reviewers and punters are falling in love with this wine left, right and centre. Jump on it while you can, these never last long. 2023 was a bit of a ripper vintage, for the Yarra at least, and the result is soft yet generous pinot noir with wonderfully crisp acidity and enduring fruit. Think ripe cherries and fresh strawberries with an underlying earthiness and lingering velvety tannins. This has Yarra Valley pinot written all over it and with 2 or 3 years under its belt, this little number is raring and ready to go, with a loooooong life ahead of it.

You'd pay $55 full price.

1x Tucks Estate Pinot Noir 2025

Red — Pinot Noir

Mornington Peninsula — Australia

Mornington’s cool climate is on full display here; bright red-fruited lift and fine, subtle structure. Gentle handling and measured oak deployment keep the style clean and focused, but still offerig breadth through the mid palate. Red plum, cherry and blue-fruit notes lead, opening into earth and light spice. The palate is supple with fine, persistent tannins. A savoury undertone adds depth. The finish is long and quietly textural. Load up on this one, it's a delight to drink now but the palate weight, structure, and complexity put it in good stead to cellar well. A knockout drop from one of the regions very best.

You'd pay $50 full price.

1x Eminence Novella Pinot Noir 2024

Red — Pinot Noir

Whitlands — Australia

Victoria's High Country produces some of the states best produce, wine inclusive. For the foodies among you, this luscious alpine area - bordering Beechworth is a 'must visit.' For those less inclined to travel, take trip there through this bright, luscious beauty! This wine is enormous fun - light, bright, sappy, floral, confected, a little bunch. There is complexity for days. The fruit weight is complete and satisfying and, while it remains light bodied (as pinot classically and varietally should) it feels complete and satisfying on the palate. There is bricky, savoury back palate nuance which puts a nice little bow on the mid-palate fruit, punctuating it and acting as a counterpoint to the pep of the acidity. It feels – and is – expertly crafted at every step.

You'd pay $45 full price.

1x Soul Growers Growers Range Serendipitous Pinot Noir 2024

Red — Pinot Noir

Adelaide Hills — Australia

This is bright, juicy and lifted pinot. Weighty and complex without sacrificing finesse and style. Right in the sweet spot for Adelaide Hills pinot. Absolutely delicious! Sour cherry, classic cassis, raspberry, strawberry, coulis, a bit of nettle. This is a wine that is brilliantly composed - the winemaking pedigree is second to none, this producer champions regional typicity, and the growers of those regions, more so than any other. For that reason the fruit is really championed here, and it shines through in every sip. Let it open up a little in your glass, you'll be rewarded with unending twists and turns as it evolves in front of you. Brilliant pinot - among the regions best.

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated selection represents the pinnacle of Australian Pinot Noir craftsmanship, featuring wines that have earned prestigious accolades including 95-point ratings from Halliday Wine Companion and Wine Pilot. The collection spans diverse cool-climate regions from Tasmania to the Yarra Valley, allowing you to explore how different terroirs express this notoriously finicky grape variety. Each wine has been rigorously tasted and debated by experts to ensure only the most exceptional examples make the cut.

Pinot Noir is famously sensitive to its environment, earning it the nickname 'the heartbreak grape' among winemakers. Cool-climate regions like Tasmania produce wines with bright acidity and delicate red fruit flavours, while slightly warmer areas like the Yarra Valley can develop more complex earthy notes and spice. The grape's thin skin makes it particularly responsive to subtle changes in temperature, soil composition, and vineyard practices, which is why this collection showcases such diverse flavour profiles from cherry and strawberry to forest floor and violets.

Pinot Noir is best served slightly cooler than most reds, around 14-16°C, which enhances its delicate aromatics and prevents the alcohol from overwhelming the subtle fruit flavours. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place away from vibration - Pinot Noir's lighter structure makes it more susceptible to temperature fluctuations than robust reds like Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanting isn't always necessary for younger Pinots, but a brief 30-minute decant can help more complex, age-worthy examples open up and reveal their full aromatic potential.

The diverse flavour profiles in this collection make it incredibly food-friendly across different cuisines and cooking methods. Lighter, fruit-forward styles pair beautifully with salmon, duck breast, or mushroom risotto, while earthier examples complement game birds, aged cheeses, or truffle dishes. The natural acidity in Pinot Noir cuts through rich sauces and fatty meats, making it excellent with charcuterie boards or slow-cooked lamb. The spice notes found in some of these wines also make them surprisingly good matches for Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with five-spice or ginger.

While many of these wines are delicious now, the collection includes examples from Five Star Halliday-rated wineries and single vineyard sites that have excellent ageing potential. Premium Australian Pinot Noir can develop beautifully over 5-10 years, gaining complexity as primary fruit flavours evolve into more nuanced secondary characteristics like leather, earth, and dried herbs. The presence of estate-grown and small-batch wines suggests careful vineyard management and winemaking that typically translates to better cellaring prospects, though the various palate weights mean some are designed for earlier consumption while others reward patience.
