1x Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This is Reserve shiraz, only made in the best years and in tiny quantities. You'll find layers of dark fruit - plum, blackberry and cherry compote - with spice, dark chocolate, earthy notes and a savoury edge that speaks to both the old vines and McLaren Vale itself. It's full-bodied but not clumsy, plush but structured, with tannins that are firm yet polished. The finish is long and layered, the kind that makes you pause before you even think about the next sip and just take a moment to enjoy yourself. Some of the fruit here comes off a McLaren Vale vineyard planted back in 1910 - gnarly old bush vines that have been tended by three generations of the same family. It's a patch of dirt with deep clay soils, east-west rows to shield the fruit from the harsh summer sun, and roots that stretch forever thanks to access to good water. Translation? Vines that dig deep and deliver concentration, balance and serious power. This wine has helped put this producer firmly on the map - you'll know what we mean as soon as you see the label. It's approachable enough to drink young if you can't wait, but built for the cellar if you've got patience. Either way, it's a reserve-level shiraz with history in its bones and proof in the pudding.

1x Mountadam Patriarch Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Eden Valley — Australia
This is shiraz from way up in the High Eden that's been matured for 18 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques and puncheons. Of course it's a beast - what else could we possibly expect. Full-bodied doesn't even begin to cover it. Rich, densely concentrated and powerful enough to make you sit up straight. It's genuinely one of the larger wines we've seen in quite some time – this thing is swamped with lush black cherry and liquorice, framed by a sturdy tannin structure that's got the backbone to age for years. Scorched earth, black olive, more of that dried meat character, vanillin cedar and black pepper lurk in the background like they're plotting something... and it turns out they are - a finish worthy of an Agatha Christie novel. A fantastic wine from start to finish.

1x Kangarilla Road Silent Noise FO Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
It's always assuring to be recognised by your peers and the Gold - McLaren Vale Wine Show, is all the assurance needed for us. A thoroughly modern wine that still holds onto the unmistakably regional flavours that the soil, climate and conditions impart. Ripe cherries, raspberries and strawberries wrap themselves around an energetic acid line and a hearty spice profile. This wine screams "drink me now", it's juicy and fleshy and vibrant in all of the ways that we love. Sure, if you age this wine it will develop, it may even improve, but it will definitely change. Well, we're gonna drink ours now, we don't want it to change at all.

1x Handpicked Regional Series Shiraz 2016

Barossa — Australia
A wine company, unlike any other. Think of them more as a team of grape nomads of the wine industry, travelling the best vineyards in search of vinous enlightenment and the holy grail of grape juice. On the 2016 trip they’ve come home with a rare shiraz from only the best vineyards - localised in the beautiful Barossa. Better unpack your bags and settle in, this one's got legs. Hailing from a hyper-focussed selection of only the very best fruit in the numerous sub-regions of the Barossa, this is a powerful and impressive shiraz. Made all the more impressive by the fact that there's only a tiny amount on offer. With lashings of rich, ripe fruit and a subtle earthy complexity, this explorer is full of spicy berries and just a hint of dark chocolate. Scrumptious shiraz has never travelled so well. Happy days! The freedom offered only to those dedicated enough to navigate their way in wine, knowing exactly what they are looking for is on full display here. Not limited by region or style, these legends grab the best fruit they can, for their exact purpose. Lucky for us that purpose is making really, really, really good wine.

1x Pindarie Western Ridge Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
This is Barossa shiraz possessing both muscle and manners. Deeply coloured, seriously expressive and stacked with medals and awards, it comes from a prime Western Ridge patch that consistently delivers the goods. Structure, balance and confidence. No tricks. Just a seriously well-made shiraz that hits the brief beautifully. As soon as you pop the top, the aromatics set the tone straight away. Blackberry and dark cherry lead, followed by black olive, baking spice and a savoury edge that keeps things interesting. French oak is there, but it’s tucked in neatly - adding shape and subtle toast without getting in the way. On the palate, it’s full-flavoured but controlled. Rich fruit runs deep, tannins are firm yet silky, and everything flows into a long, composed finish that hangs around in the best way. It’s drinking beautifully now with a bit of air, but there’s plenty under the hood if you feel like laying it down. Great wine.

Barossa's best known sub-region of Eden Valley still doesn't get the recognition it deserves - despite popping out some of Australia's greatest ever wines - looking at you Hill of Grace. Mouth-watering black fruit flows beautifully across the palate before velvety tannins, wonderful acid and subtle spice arrive. Full-bodied with serious complexity and impressive length - an absolute winner.
