1x Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2016

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

For over 30 years this wine has been spoken about in the same breath as the greatest Shiraz produced anywhere in the country. That's not marketing. That's just the truth. The philosophy behind this wine is beautifully simple: find the very best fruit in the Barossa - the small, intensely concentrated parcels that outperform everything around them - and get out of the way. Over three decades of doing exactly that has produced a wine of legendary status. What was once powerful, muscular and demanding has evolved into something genuinely magnificent. The grunt is still very much there - this is Barossa Shiraz with serious backbone and presence - but time has worked its magic. The tannins have settled into something silky and sophisticated, the dark fruit has deepened and complexified, and the ironstone, graphite and earthy minerality that defines this wine has come into beautiful focus. This is a collector's wine. A cellar wine. A once-in-a-while, pour-it-for-someone-special wine.

You'd pay $120 full price.

1x Schild Estate Three Springs Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This particular vineyard, in the Rowland Flat area of the Barossa, sits at 380m above sea-level. At this altitude, Barossa vineyards traditionally produce much lower yields creating highly concentrated fruit of exceptional quality. From the first whiff it's quite apparent, this is a really smart wine. A perfumed nose of the expected dark fruits with floral elements of rose petal and violets. On the palate, juicy plums, dark chocolate, pepper, spice and, of course, a long, smooth, oak-driven finish. This drop is as intense as it is complex and will continue to impress for many years to come. Very, very impressive.

You'd pay $180 full price.

1x Eileen Hardy Hardy Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

This is the McLaren Vale shiraz that sets the benchmark. The big kahuna. The flagship. From the family so entrenched in the Australian wine landscape that it's hard to see where the vines end and their boots start. When we think of Australian shiraz - we think of this family, we thin of this wine. This isn’t just any shiraz - it’s a masterclass in balance. Sure, it’s full-bodied, deep and brooding, but it wears its power with style. Waves of blackberry, plum and blueberry rolling through, chased by whiffs of coffee grind and a smoky little savoury twist. Seventeen months in French oak has wrapped it all up in sleek texture and supple tannins that glide across the palate like Tom Cruise in 'Risky Business'. It’s rich, it’s refined, it’s ridiculously good. That perfect dance of intensity and precision that McLaren Vale dreams are made of. Every sip unfurls with dark fruit, chocolate, clove and a touch of violet - lush and layered, but never over the top. Seriously special stuff.

You'd pay $160 full price.

1x Hewitson Strawberry Hill Shiraz 2024

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This wine will exceed your expectations; with layers of flavourful complexity, you’ll discover something new with every sip. The wine opens with an array of forest fruits of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripened plums. Non fruit characteristics are already shining through, especially over the palate where you’ll be treated to notes of dark chocolate, fresh coffee bean and dustings of cacao. The tannins are fine grained. The length on the finish just keeps going and the 15 months this shiraz spent in French oak prior to bottling ensures you can cellar this and revel in its maturity for years to come.

You'd pay $150 full price.

1x Greenock Creek Fifteen Claims Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

1,000 bottles. That's all that was ever made. That's the entire world supply. From a highly-exclusive vineyard, in the highly-exclusive sub-region of Mopa, in one of the best Barossa years ever. This is the best of the best - in devastatingly small quantities. A pick-up to be proud of! Opaque blood red in the glass, with a nose that stops you completely. Vanilla, blueberry, chocolate, mocha, coffee bean, aniseed and dark plum all layered together in something that feels almost impossibly complex and perfectly composed at the same time. The palate is focused and immaculately balanced - intensity maintained from the very first sip all the way through to a finish of extraordinary length, underpinned by the silkiest tannins you'll find on a Barossa Shiraz at any price.

You'd pay $120 full price.

1x St Hugo Signature Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Five years of graceful development on a Barossa Shiraz of this calibre is a beautiful thing. What was once a powerfully structured, firm and concentrated young wine has evolved into something considerably more compelling - still powerful, but silky, sophisticated and deeply satisfying, while still carrying all the grunt and presence that makes Barossa Shiraz so special. This one comes from one of the most important names in the entire history of Australian wine, full stop. It's no surprise we've ended up with an absolute belter of a wine! Deep, saturated and inky in the glass. Blackberry, blood plum and blue fruits on the nose, with dark chocolate, mocha and a savoury spice complexity building underneath. The palate is full-bodied and rich, with fine chalky tannins that have softened beautifully over time and a finish of impressive length and texture. Powerful but perfectly balanced - the kind of wine that earned a Trophy for best Shiraz at the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge and absolutely deserved it. Drink it now with something substantial from the grill. Or put it away until 2030 and beyond and watch it continue to develop into something extraordinary.

You'd pay $55 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This collection showcases the incredible diversity within Australian Shiraz by bringing together six legendary producers from different regions and vintages. Each wine represents a distinct terroir expression - from Barossa Valley powerhouses like Peter Lehmann and Greenock Creek to the refined elegance of St Hugo. The vintage span from 2016 to 2024 also demonstrates how Shiraz evolves and develops different characteristics over time, offering a masterclass in Australia's most celebrated red variety.

The flavour spectrum ranges from dark fruit intensity (blackberry, plum, black cherry) through to complex savoury notes like tobacco, black olive, and spice. The chocolate and dark chocolate elements provide a unifying thread, while the raspberry and allspice notes add brightness and complexity. This creates a tasting journey from fruit-forward expressions to more structured, earthy styles, allowing you to explore how different winemaking approaches and terroirs influence Shiraz's flavour development.

The vintage spread offers a unique opportunity to taste Shiraz at different stages of development, from the mature complexity of the 2016 Peter Lehmann Stonewell to the youthful vibrancy of the 2024 Hewitson. This range demonstrates how Shiraz evolves - older vintages show integrated tannins and developed tertiary flavours, while newer releases display primary fruit intensity. It's particularly valuable for understanding how Australia's varying seasonal conditions across these years have influenced each wine's character.

These producers represent the aristocracy of Australian Shiraz, with several holding Langtons Classification status and five-star Halliday ratings. Peter Lehmann is a Barossa icon, Greenock Creek produces some of Australia's most concentrated Shiraz, and Eileen Hardy represents Hardys' premium tier with decades of winemaking heritage. The collection includes both established legends and rising stars like Hewitson, creating a comprehensive representation of Australian Shiraz excellence across generations of winemaking expertise.

Start with the younger, more fruit-forward wines like the 2024 Hewitson to appreciate primary Shiraz characteristics, then progress to the more complex, aged expressions like the 2016 Peter Lehmann Stonewell. Consider tasting them over several sessions rather than all at once, as each wine deserves individual attention to appreciate its unique terroir expression. The full-bodied nature means they'll benefit from decanting and pairing with rich foods like grilled meats or aged cheeses to complement their intensity and structure.
