Why do we love this wine?

In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.

Wine Orbit

"Richly fruited and enticing, the wine shows dark fruit intensity, toasted spice, vanilla, and roasted hazelnut characters on the nose. It's equally satisfying in the mouth, offering excellent weight, fleshy texture, and fine-grained tannins, making it harmonious and structured with a lengthy, delectable finish. 95 Points"

Frequently Asked Questions

This Golden Lion Shiraz showcases the classic Barossa Valley style with its deep crimson colour and full-bodied palate, but what sets it apart is Angela Miranda's winemaking expertise and the strategic use of American oak. The American oak adds distinctive coconut and vanilla notes that complement the traditional pepper and dark chocolate characteristics of Barossa Shiraz. This creates a more complex flavour profile than many regional competitors, balancing power with elegance.

The beauty of this 2022 Shiraz is its versatility - it's delicious right now but has excellent ageing potential of up to 15 years. Young Barossa Shiraz often shows vibrant fruit and spice, which will gradually integrate and develop tertiary flavours like leather, earth, and game over time. If you enjoy bold, fruit-forward wines, drink it within 2-3 years, but patient cellaring will reward you with a more complex, sophisticated wine.

This wine's rich tannin structure and American oak influence make it perfect for hearty, protein-rich dishes, particularly grilled or roasted red meats like steak, lamb, or venison. The wine's spice notes and savoury tannins also complement barbecued meats beautifully, while the vanilla and coconut from the oak can enhance dishes with similar warm spice profiles. Strong cheeses like aged cheddar or blue cheese also create excellent flavour bridges with the wine's intensity.

Angela Miranda, the winemaker behind this Shiraz, represents the growing influence of women in Australian winemaking, particularly in traditional regions like Barossa Valley. Female winemakers often bring different perspectives to classic styles, sometimes focusing more on balance and elegance alongside power. This recognition highlights not just the wine's quality, but also celebrates the important role women play in shaping Australia's wine industry and maintaining family wine legacies.

The 'Dangerous Value' rating suggests this Shiraz delivers quality that significantly exceeds its price point, making it almost irresistibly good value. In wine terms, this usually means the wine competes with bottles costing considerably more, often due to efficient production methods, family ownership reducing markup, or the winery's focus on volume over premium pricing. For consumers, it represents an opportunity to experience high-quality Barossa Shiraz without the premium price tag typically associated with the region.
