Austin’s know their patch of the Moorabool Valley (Geelong) better than most - they’ve been working it for 30+ years, and you can tell. This is serious single-vineyard pinot noir, hand-picked, matured in French oak, and painstakingly blended barrel by barrel for impeccable balance, depth and pure drinking pleasure. There's a reason the whole world is talking about Geelong pinot noir.

Why do we love this wine?

This is refined, savoury and dangerously drinkable pinot from the cool-climate heartland of Victoria. Red cherry, plum and dark chocolate meet silky tannins and fine French oak in a wine that’s all charm, structure and smooth-talking style. It’s got all the good stuff, the tannins are soft, the palate’s silky, and there’s plenty of fruit weight to keep things humming. It’s elegant, complex and built to impress - whether you’re sipping solo or pulling corks for guests. Serve it straight out the bottle (liberally), and pair it with roast duck, mushroom risotto and a couple of your favourite people. This is the kind of pinot that reminds you why you fell in love with the grape in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Geelong's cool maritime climate and volcanic soils create ideal conditions for elegant Pinot Noir production. The region's proximity to Port Phillip Bay moderates temperatures, allowing for slow ripening that develops complex flavours while maintaining natural acidity. This terroir produces wines with the refined, savoury characteristics that make this Mastersons bottling so compelling.

Serve this Pinot Noir at cellar temperature (14-16°C) in large Burgundy glasses to allow the aromatics to develop fully. The wine benefits from gentle decanting or simply opening 30 minutes before serving to let the French oak integrate with the fruit. Its medium body and silky tannins make it versatile enough to enjoy on its own or with food.

The wine's savoury profile and mushroom notes make it exceptional with earthy dishes like truffle pasta, wild mushroom risotto, or roasted duck with cherry sauce. The medium body and refined tannins also complement salmon, pork tenderloin, or aged cheeses. The dark chocolate notes create beautiful harmony with dishes featuring rich, umami-driven sauces.

While this 2025 vintage is dangerously drinkable now with its approachable fruit and silky texture, quality Geelong Pinot Noir typically develops greater complexity over 5-8 years. The French oak and structured tannins suggest excellent cellaring potential, where secondary flavours of forest floor and spice will emerge. However, its current charm makes immediate enjoyment equally rewarding.

A 95-point rating from Wine Orbit places this wine in exceptional territory, indicating outstanding quality that represents the pinnacle of Australian Pinot Noir. This score reflects the wine's perfect balance of fruit concentration, structural integrity, and regional expression. Such high ratings typically indicate wines that showcase both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential, justifying the investment for serious wine enthusiasts.
