We are big fans of Domaine Anita here at Mofo HQ. Winemaker Anita Neveu crafts immaculately precise single vineyard wines that show off some of the most spectacular parts of Beaujolais. This gorgeous Fleurie is extremely concentrated but like pure silk on the palate - one of our favourites from the collection.

Why do we love this wine?

Fleurie might be famed for its charm, but this bottling takes things up a notch. Concentrated and expressive, yet gliding across the palate with surprising lightness, it shows exactly why this cru is regarded as one of Beaujolais’ most captivating. The nose bursts with sour cherry and black cherry, lifted and precise. The palate is sleek and medium-bodied, carried by fine tannins and a cool, mineral edge that keeps everything beautifully balanced. A long, velvety finish leaves a final flourish of cherry fruit, echoing the aromas from the very first swirl of the glass. Made mostly from whole-cluster fruit to lock in freshness, this is Fleurie with both brightness and depth. Drink now for its vivid fruit or cellar for added complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fleurie is one of the ten prestigious crus of Beaujolais, distinguished by its granite soils and elevated vineyards that produce more structured, age-worthy wines than basic Beaujolais. This particular bottling from Domaine Anita showcases Fleurie's signature elegance - combining concentrated fruit with surprising lightness and mineral precision. The whole-cluster fermentation technique used here preserves the bright, floral character that gives Fleurie its reputation as the most feminine and graceful of the Beaujolais crus.

Whole-cluster fermentation means the grapes are fermented with their stems intact, creating a unique flavour profile that's both fresher and more complex. This technique adds subtle spice notes and enhances the wine's natural acidity, which explains the bright, lifted cherry aromas and the cool mineral edge on the palate. The stems also contribute fine tannins that give structure without heaviness, allowing this Fleurie to maintain its characteristic elegance while developing greater depth and aging potential.

This 2023 Fleurie offers the best of both worlds - it's absolutely delicious now with its vivid cherry fruit and bright acidity making it perfect for immediate enjoyment. However, Gamay from quality producers like Domaine Anita can develop beautifully over 5-8 years, gaining earthier, more complex flavours while retaining its core fruit character. The wine's fine tannin structure and mineral backbone suggest it will reward patient cellaring, evolving from its current bright fruit expression into something more nuanced and sophisticated.

The medium-bodied profile and bright acidity make this Fleurie incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that bridge light and rich flavours. Classic pairings include roasted chicken, duck breast, or pork tenderloin, where the wine's cherry fruit complements the meat without overwhelming it. The savoury undertones and mineral edge also make it excellent with mushroom-based dishes, charcuterie, or aged cheeses like Comté or Gruyère, while the wine's freshness can handle slightly spiced cuisine or tomato-based sauces.

A 95-point score from James Suckling places this wine in exceptional territory - it's considered outstanding quality that represents the top 5% of wines reviewed. Suckling is particularly respected for his expertise in French wines, making this rating especially meaningful for a Beaujolais cru. This score, combined with strong ratings from other sources, indicates that Domaine Anita has crafted something truly special that transcends typical expectations for the region, offering both immediate pleasure and serious wine credentials at what's likely an accessible price point.
