This bloke's a bit of a legend in the Barossa, he lets the fruit do the talking... lucky for us his fruit is pretty much as good as it gets. This Marananga-sourced grenache is looking gorgeous before you've even lifted it to your nose. From there, forget about it - you're in for quite the ride here, time to chuck your seatbelt on.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This pretty little thing packs a bigger punch than its delicate appearance would have you believe. Cherries and wild strawberry lead with raspberry, lifted by citrus blossom and gingerbread notes. Rose petals float through with exotic spice, a slight savouriness, earthy undertones and distant sarsaparilla glimpses building complexity. Seductive doesn't begin to cover these aromatics - they're genuinely captivating. Then the palate arrives telling a similar story but with completely different tone. Spices take control here. That prettiness and delicacy step aside as grip and concentration charge forward. Savoury tannins persist, elevating red fruit to new levels of complexity. Airy and spacious with vivid minerally tension and chalky, savoury sour cherry character flowing through. Explosive right now but built to age gracefully over a decade-plus. Your choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Grenache showcases the variety's remarkable duality - appearing delicate with cherry and strawberry aromatics, yet delivering surprising power and complexity on the palate. Unlike many Grenaches that remain soft throughout, this wine transforms dramatically from nose to mouth, with savoury tannins and mineral tension taking control. The Barossa Valley's warm climate has concentrated the fruit while maintaining the variety's characteristic spice profile, creating a wine that challenges preconceptions about Grenache's gentle nature.

While this Grenache is described as 'explosive right now', it's built for extended ageing over a decade or more. The 2023 vintage benefits from Barossa's exceptional growing conditions, producing wines with both immediate appeal and long-term potential. The wine's savoury tannin structure and mineral backbone will allow the exotic spices and red fruit complexity to evolve beautifully. You can enjoy it young for its vibrant fruit expression, or cellar it to develop more tertiary flavours and soften the grip.

The wine's unique combination of red fruit sweetness and savoury, spicy character makes it incredibly food-friendly. The medium body and mineral tension pair beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine, particularly dishes featuring herbs and spices that echo the wine's gingerbread and exotic spice notes. Consider lamb with rosemary, duck with cherry sauce, or aged hard cheeses. The savoury tannins can handle richer preparations, while the fruit brightness complements lighter fare.

These designations indicate limited production from a highly regarded winemaker who has developed a devoted following. Small batch production allows for meticulous attention to detail in both vineyard and winery, resulting in wines that express terroir more precisely than mass-produced alternatives. Cult producers often employ traditional techniques and work with exceptional vineyard sites, creating wines that develop passionate collector followings. The combination suggests this Grenache represents the producer's finest work from select parcels.

This descriptor reveals the influence of Barossa's distinctive soils and climate on the wine's character. The chalky minerality suggests limestone or calcareous soil components that impart a distinctive texture and flavour profile, while the savoury elements indicate the vine stress and concentration typical of Barossa's warm, dry conditions. The sour cherry character shows how the terroir has shaped the fruit expression, creating more complex, less overtly sweet flavours than you might expect from such a warm region.
