Seriously delicious cabernet. Serious value. From one of Australia's greatest ever producers. 95 points and a Gold Medal at the Melbourne Wine Show. Described as a "shining beacon" of value by The Real Review. And five years of bottle age that's developed exactly what you'd hope for a wine of this quality.

Why do we love this wine?

Some Australian wine producers have been around long enough that their reputation doesn't need an introduction. This is one of them. Over 170 years of winemaking heritage, a cabinet full of trophies, and a track record of producing seriously good wine at prices that consistently blow us all away. This one's dark and brooding in the glass, with cassis, blackcurrant, dark plum and mulberry at the core, layered with tobacco leaf, cocoa, cedar and a graphite minerality that gives it real sophistication. The tannins are fine and structured, the acidity is focused, and the finish is long, concentrated and completely satisfying.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Hardy's HRB Cabernet Sauvignon has earned exceptional recognition with both Gold and 95 points at the Melbourne Wine Show, indicating outstanding quality among Australian wines. The combination of blackcurrant intensity with cedar complexity suggests careful oak integration, while raspberry notes add elegance to what could otherwise be a heavy full-bodied wine. Hardy's HRB range represents their premium tier, focusing on vineyard selection and traditional winemaking techniques that showcase Australia's ability to produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow the full-bodied structure and cedar notes to express properly without overwhelming the palate. The blackcurrant and raspberry flavours make it an excellent match for red meat dishes, particularly grilled lamb or beef with herb crusts that complement the cedar characteristics. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and integrate the oak, especially given its award-winning status suggests concentrated flavours that benefit from aeration.

The 2020 vintage is currently drinking beautifully, as evidenced by its recent Melbourne Wine Show success, but this full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon has excellent cellaring potential. The cedar notes indicate quality oak treatment that will continue to integrate over the next 5-8 years, while the blackcurrant fruit provides the backbone for extended ageing. If you enjoy more fruit-forward expressions, drink it now; for those preferring developed tertiary flavours and softer tannins, cellar until 2028-2030.

HRB represents Hardy's premium range, focusing on exceptional vineyard sites and traditional winemaking methods that honour the brand's heritage dating back to 1853. This designation indicates single-vineyard or carefully selected parcels that demonstrate superior terroir expression, explaining why this Cabernet Sauvignon achieved such high scores at the Melbourne Wine Show. The HRB range bridges the gap between Hardy's commercial offerings and their ultra-premium wines, providing serious wine drinkers with accessible luxury that reflects Australia's winemaking excellence.

The presence of both blackcurrant and raspberry reflects the complexity achievable in premium Australian Cabernet Sauvignon through careful vineyard management and winemaking decisions. Blackcurrant is Cabernet's signature flavour, indicating ripe, concentrated fruit, while raspberry notes often emerge from specific clones, cooler vineyard sites, or particular fermentation techniques. This flavour combination, enhanced by cedar from quality oak treatment, creates the layered profile that impressed Melbourne Wine Show judges and demonstrates why Australian Cabernet Sauvignon has gained international recognition for its distinctive character.
