Langhe Rosso is the everyday drink of the Piemontese. It's ready to drink young (no waiting a decade like with a Barolo) and pairs beautifully with most every dish on the table.

Why do we love this wine?

We’ve just imported our first wines from Bricco Carlina under their La Camilla label. Bricco Carlina is a tiny family-run winery and their attention to detail really shows through in their wines. The delicious La Camilla Langhe Rosso DOC 2022 is made from nebbiolo, barbera and dolcetto. It absolutely sings on the palate with a fresh expression of violet, raspberry and spice. Fans of pinot noir will want to crack a bottle of this. It’s light-bodied, pairs really well with lamb and has plenty of complexity for the ponderous types. You can save that Barolo for a special occasion and still feel transported to Northern Italy any night of the week.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine combines three classic Piedmontese varieties: nebbiolo, barbera, and dolcetto. Nebbiolo provides the wine's elegant structure and violet aromatics, while barbera contributes bright acidity and cherry flavours. Dolcetto rounds out the blend with soft tannins and approachable fruitiness, creating a harmonious expression that's more accessible than single-varietal nebbiolo wines like Barolo.

The comparison stems from the wine's light-bodied nature and elegant flavour profile featuring violet and raspberry notes. Like pinot noir, this Langhe Rosso offers complexity without heaviness, making it food-friendly and approachable. The nebbiolo component particularly shares pinot noir's ability to express terroir subtly while maintaining freshness and aromatic intensity.

DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, Italy's quality classification system that guarantees the wine's geographic origin and production methods. Langhe DOC specifically covers wines from the hills surrounding Alba in Piedmont, ensuring this wine meets strict regional standards. This classification sits below DOCG but above basic table wines, indicating quality winemaking within defined boundaries.

The wine's light body and fresh acidity make it perfect for roasted lamb with herbs, particularly rosemary and thyme which complement the wine's spice notes. The raspberry and violet characteristics won't overpower delicate lamb preparations, while the wine's savoury elements enhance the meat's natural flavours. Serve slightly below room temperature (around 16-18°C) to highlight its fresh, elegant character.

As a tiny family-run winery, Bricco Carlina represents the artisanal side of Piedmontese winemaking, focusing on small-batch production and meticulous attention to detail. Their La Camilla label showcases traditional Langhe winemaking without the premium pricing of famous appellations like Barolo. This allows wine lovers to experience authentic Piedmontese character and craftsmanship in an everyday drinking wine that still offers genuine complexity and regional typicity.
