Smooth, powerful, concentrated and dense. This is a serious bottle of wine. Barossan's take their old-vines very, very seriously - and so they should, the Barossa is home to the oldest fruiting shiraz vines in the world! Rumour has it that some of those grapes may have made their way into this beauty, but there's no way to be sure...

Why do we love this wine?

As a general rule, the older the vines, the better the wines. But why? Well, the simplified answer is that as grape vines mature they begin to produce less fruit. As a result, all of the energy, all of the sun and soil, all of the flavour is condensed into less grapes, so you end up with highly concentrated, perfectly balanced fruit with the capacity to create extremely low quantity, extremely high quality wines that could out-last religion. This gorgeous wine is everything you'd expect from these world-famous vines and more. A complex bouquet of dark berries, cake spice, charcuterie and cedar lure in the lucky drinker and sets them up for a beautifully concentrated palate that feels both nuanced and assertive. And that's it, this wine imposes itself on any situation that it finds itself in, in the best possible way. Completely captivating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Old vines naturally reduce their fruit production as they age, concentrating all their energy into fewer grapes. This results in intensely flavoured, perfectly balanced fruit that creates wines with exceptional depth and longevity. The Barossa Valley's ancient soils and Mediterranean climate provide ideal conditions for these mature vines to produce Shiraz with remarkable complexity and structure that can age gracefully for decades.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to showcase its complex aromatics of dark berries, spice, and cedar. Decant it 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the concentrated flavours to open up fully. The wine's assertive character and rich palate weight make it perfect for pairing with robust dishes like grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or hearty stews that can match its intensity.

A 96-point rating from Wine Orbit places this Shiraz in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that represents the top tier of Australian wines. This score reflects the wine's complex bouquet, concentrated palate, and perfect balance achieved through old vine fruit. Such high ratings typically indicate wines with excellent ageing potential and distinctive regional character that sets them apart from standard offerings.

Given its old vine concentration and full-bodied structure, this 2021 Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 10-15 years or more. The wine's natural acidity, tannin structure, and concentrated fruit will allow it to develop additional complexity over time. Store it in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature, and you'll be rewarded with evolving flavours of leather, tobacco, and dried fruits complementing the existing berry and spice notes.

This wine's rich, assertive character and notes of dark berries, spice, and cedar make it ideal for bold flavours. Try it with barbecued lamb, beef brisket, or venison where the wine's concentration can stand up to smoky, charred flavours. The charcuterie notes also complement aged hard cheeses, while the spice elements pair beautifully with dishes featuring rosemary, thyme, or black pepper.
