Why do we love this wine?
The Pertaringa name is no stranger to the Aussie household. The iconic Hardy family are to wine what vegemite is to toast: a perfect match. So, to land this beauty from the hands of Bec Hardy is monumental for us, and we couldn't be more pleased. This is McLaren Shiraz through and through, with densely packed dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee exploding on the nose. The palate follows through just as true, layered with preserved plums, dark forest berries and a lick of vanillin softness. There's one word for this wine, and it's awesome.

Wine Orbit
Opulent and immensely complex, the wine shows black/blueberry, violet, vanillin oak and fragrant spice aromas on the nose. The palate displays outstanding concentration and power, while remaining gracious and harmonious. Wonderfully framed by plush texture and finely pitched tannins, making it sumptuous and hugely appealing. At its best: 2026 to 2040. $80

This is a bit thrilling. Everything is in place. McLaren Vale Shiraz from a cracking vintage. The wine saw small batch open fermenters, followed by a year and a half maturation in a mix of new and older French oak. An opaque maroon, there is good concentration throughout. Exemplary oak integration here, along with notes of tar, chocolate, earth, aniseed, spices, cassis and dark plums. This is ripe and plush and yet exhibits balance and focus. Early complexity is evident. Satiny tannins with great length, this is set for a long and happy life, at least ten to fifteen years.
