This is top-tier Aussie pinot, full stop. A nod to this family's long tradition of blending top-shelf fruit from complimentary regions to make something greater than the sum of its parts. If you love pinot that’s serious, sophisticated and wonderfully drinkable, this is one to grab before it disappears. When you blend Tassie fruit with some of the best that the Upper-Yarra has to offer... magic happens.

Why do we love this wine?

This is what happens when you pull fruit from the two best pinot-growing zones in the country and let the winemaking speak for itself. Coal River and Derwent for the Tassie purity. Upper Yarra for that cool-climate finesse. Together, we get absolute harmony. In the glass it’s a bright ruby beauty with dark and red cherry, raspberry coulis and wild strawberry all jostling for attention. Then the savoury layers roll in: a touch of leaf litter, spice, gentle vanillin oak, a bit of earthiness, even a hint of char siu and amaro herbs. It’s complex without being showy, elegant without being fragile. The palate is pure line and length. Fruit and minerally acidity in perfect tension, finishing on a slow, fine fan of spiced red fruits. Graceful. Detailed. Confident.

Frequently Asked Questions

This strategic blending combines the best of two premium cool-climate regions to create complexity that neither could achieve alone. Tasmania's Coal River and Derwent valleys contribute pristine purity and bright acidity, while Upper Yarra adds sophisticated finesse and structure. The result is a wine that showcases the complementary strengths of Australia's two most respected Pinot Noir regions, creating harmony between Tasmanian freshness and Victorian elegance.

The 95-point Halliday score reflects the wine's exceptional balance between fruit purity and savoury complexity. James Halliday recognises wines that demonstrate both technical excellence and distinctive character - this Pinot delivers with its seamless integration of bright red fruits, earthy minerality, and subtle oak influence. The wine's ability to be complex without being showy, plus its impressive length and tension, places it among Australia's finest Pinot Noirs.

Serve slightly chilled at 14-16°C to highlight its elegant fruit profile and bright acidity. The light body and graceful structure make it perfect for food pairing - try it with duck breast, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses where its savoury layers can complement rather than overpower. Decanting isn't necessary, but opening 30 minutes before serving allows the complex aromatics to fully develop.

Those unique savoury elements make this Pinot exceptionally food-friendly with Asian-inspired cuisine and herb-forward dishes. The char siu notes pair beautifully with glazed pork, Chinese barbecue, or even grilled salmon with soy-based marinades. The amaro herb characteristics work wonderfully with dishes featuring rosemary, thyme, or sage, making it ideal for herb-crusted lamb or roasted vegetables with Mediterranean herbs.

This 2022 is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its bright fruit and elegant structure at peak expression. However, quality Pinot Noir from these premium regions typically develops additional complexity over 5-8 years, with the savoury elements becoming more pronounced and the tannins further integrating. If you enjoy the current fruit-forward style, drink within 2-3 years; for those preferring more developed, earthy characteristics, cellar until 2028-2030.
