Why do we love this wine?

The world-renowned grapes for this shiraz are picked at perfect ripeness to give voluptuous fruit quality, and see a couple of years in new and seasoned French oak barrels. The resulting wine is dark and deep, with blueberries, spice and a touch of white pepper on the nose. The palate is full of fine tannins and rich red cherries and plums. It’s not just a Mofo-favourite - it’s an all round fave for punters and pundits alike, bringing in an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino and 96 points from Wine Orbit; Certainly not something you see every day. Calling all Aussie red lovers, this one should catch your attention!

It's generously expressed in rich tones of black/blueberry and dark chocolate notes with nuances of cake spice, rich floral and cedar. The concentrated palate offers impressive density and velvety mouthfeel, making it substantial and gratifying. At its best: now to 2040.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Rosenvale Shiraz has earned exceptional recognition with 96 points from Wine Orbit and a rare Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine, placing it among Australia's elite wines. The combination of world-renowned Barossa fruit and careful French oak maturation creates a wine that balances power with finesse. Its impressive 4.1 Vivino rating from everyday drinkers proves it appeals to both critics and casual wine lovers, making it a standout example of why Barossa Shiraz remains Australia's flagship style.

The use of both new and seasoned French oak barrels adds layers of complexity beyond the fruit's natural intensity. New oak contributes subtle vanilla and spice notes that complement the wine's natural white pepper characteristics, while seasoned barrels allow the fruit to shine without overwhelming oak influence. This dual approach creates the wine's signature dark, deep profile and helps integrate the fine tannins that give structure to the rich cherry and plum flavours.

This wine's rich tannin structure and concentrated dark fruit flavours make it perfect for hearty, protein-rich dishes. Classic pairings include grilled lamb with rosemary, beef brisket, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's spice notes and white pepper finish also complement barbecued meats with bold marinades, while its full body can stand up to rich, slow-cooked stews and casseroles that are popular in Australian cuisine.

With its impressive structure, fine tannins, and French oak foundation, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The 2021 is drinking beautifully now, showing vibrant fruit and integrated oak, but will develop more complex secondary flavours like leather, tobacco, and earthy notes over time. Barossa Shiraz from quality producers like Rosenvale typically hits its peak around 5-7 years after vintage, though this wine's exceptional ratings suggest it may reward even longer cellaring.

Vine Vale Road runs through some of the most prestigious vineyard sites in the Barossa Valley, and this designation indicates the grapes come from this specific terroir. The road traverses varied soil types and microclimates that contribute to the wine's complexity and depth of flavour. By highlighting this geographic reference, Rosenvale is showcasing fruit from their premium vineyard blocks, which explains why this wine achieves such exceptional quality ratings and commands attention from both critics and wine enthusiasts.
