Why do we love this wine?

A tribute to the man who started the family's winemaking journey, this single vineyard Barossa Shiraz carries that weight with extraordinary grace. Hand-sorted fruit from one carefully chosen block, open fermented, then 18 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak - followed by another two years of bottle maturation under optimal conditions before it was deemed ready to face the world. That kind of patience shows up in every sip. In the glass it's inky and dramatic - blackberry, liquorice and dark cherry leading the charge, with black olive, cedar, scorched earth and cracked pepper lurking underneath. The palate is full-bodied, plush and genuinely voluminous, with velvet tannins that somehow manage to be both structured and completely seamless. The finish is long, opulent and deeply satisfying. This is Barossa Shiraz made with intent, history and know-how. You can taste all three.

Frequently Asked Questions

This single vineyard Shiraz represents the pinnacle of Barossa winemaking tradition, sourced from one carefully selected block rather than blended fruit. The 18-month maturation in a tri-nation oak program (French, American, and Hungarian) creates exceptional complexity, while the additional two years of bottle ageing develops the seamless integration that Barossa's best examples are renowned for. The combination of hand-sorting, open fermentation, and extended ageing reflects old-world techniques that honour the region's Germanic winemaking heritage.

Scoring between 95-97 points across four respected wine publications demonstrates remarkable consistency and exceptional quality. When multiple critics independently award scores in this range, it indicates a wine that transcends personal preference and achieves technical excellence. These ratings place it among Australia's elite Shiraz releases, suggesting it possesses the structure, complexity, and balance that define truly outstanding examples of the variety.

The wine's rich, voluminous palate and earthy undertones make it ideal for robust dishes that can match its intensity. Think slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or game meats where the wine's black olive and cedar notes will harmonise beautifully. The structured yet seamless tannins also pair excellently with aged hard cheeses, while the dark fruit profile complements dishes featuring mushrooms or Mediterranean herbs.

Having already undergone two years of bottle maturation before release, this Shiraz is drinking beautifully now with its tannins perfectly integrated. However, the structured backbone and concentrated fruit suggest excellent cellaring potential for another 8-12 years. The combination of quality oak treatment and Barossa's exceptional terroir means it will continue developing complexity, with the earthy and spice elements becoming more pronounced over time.

The innovative use of French, American, and Hungarian oak creates a sophisticated flavour matrix that no single oak type could achieve alone. French oak contributes elegance and spice, American oak adds vanilla sweetness and structure, while Hungarian oak provides unique savoury complexity. This tri-nation approach, combined with 18 months of careful maturation, allows the Barossa fruit to shine while adding layers of cedar, subtle toast, and integrated spice that enhance rather than dominate the wine's natural character.
