Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This rare drop from a McLaren Vale powerhouse is just coming into its prime drinking window now, and wowser, is it singing. From 35+ year old vines, and after 24 months in French and American oak, this drop has it all. Rich, dark plums and bramble berries layered atop sweet cedar and sandalwood envelop the olfactories with finesse. The palate is equally rewarding, and opens up impeccably in the glass. Pure silk, with dark chocolate melting onto the rich, ripe dark fruit profile. Feel free to try this over a couple of days - it'll reward you greatly.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Shiraz comes from 35+ year old vines, which produce grapes with exceptional concentration and complexity that younger vines simply cannot match. The extended 24-month maturation in both French and American oak creates a sophisticated balance between Old World elegance and New World power. McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and ancient soils are perfectly suited to Shiraz, producing wines with the region's signature combination of rich fruit intensity and refined tannin structure.

With its 97-point Wine Orbit rating and museum release status, this Shiraz has excellent ageing potential of 10-15 years from vintage. The wine is currently in its prime drinking window, meaning it's showing beautifully now but will continue to develop greater complexity over time. The combination of old vine fruit concentration and quality oak maturation provides the structural backbone needed for extended cellaring, with flavours evolving from primary fruit to more savoury, tertiary characteristics.

The wine's rich dark chocolate and cedar notes make it perfect for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The coconut and sandalwood characters from American oak complement spiced dishes like Moroccan tagines or Indian curries beautifully. For cheese pairings, try aged cheddar or blue cheese, where the wine's full body can stand up to strong flavours while the dark fruit provides a lovely contrast.

This complex Shiraz contains concentrated tannins and layered aromatics that need time to fully express themselves through oxidation. As the wine breathes, the tight tannin structure softens, allowing the dark fruit flavours to become more prominent and the oak integration to improve. The wine's high quality and concentration mean it won't deteriorate quickly once opened, instead revealing new flavour dimensions each day, particularly enhanced spice and earthy undertones.

Museum Release indicates this wine has been specially selected and held back by the winery for extended cellaring before release, ensuring it reaches the market at optimal drinking maturity. This practice demonstrates the producer's confidence in the wine's quality and ageing potential, as they've invested in storing it properly for several years. Museum releases typically represent the finest examples from exceptional vintages, making them highly sought after by collectors and serious wine enthusiasts.
