All class. Soft, pretty, powerful, gutsy, smooth, bold, perfumed and concentrated all at once. With nearly 5 years in the rear-view mirror, this one's only just getting started and we are so glad that we get to come along for the ride. Drink now or for years (and years) to come.

Why do we love this wine?

This particular vineyard, in the Rowland Flat area of the Barossa, sits at 380m above sea-level. At this altitude, Barossa vineyards traditionally produce much lower yields creating highly concentrated fruit of exceptional quality. From the first whiff it's quite apparent, this is a really smart wine. A perfumed nose of the expected dark fruits with floral elements of rose petal and violets. On the palate, juicy plums, dark chocolate, pepper, spice and, of course, a long, smooth, oak-driven finish. This drop is as intense as it is complex and will continue to impress for many years to come. Very, very impressive.

Frequently Asked Questions

The exceptional ratings (96-97 points) reflect the wine's origin from high-altitude Rowland Flat vineyards at 380m elevation, where lower yields naturally concentrate flavours. This elevation creates ideal conditions for developing the complex aromatics of rose petal and violets alongside traditional Shiraz characteristics. The combination of intense fruit concentration, sophisticated oak integration, and remarkable complexity demonstrates why Barossa's elevated sites are increasingly recognised for producing Australia's finest Shiraz.

At 380m above sea level, this vineyard experiences cooler temperatures that slow ripening and reduce yields, concentrating flavours dramatically. Higher altitude Barossa sites like Rowland Flat produce Shiraz with more refined tannins and enhanced aromatics compared to valley floor vineyards. The elevation contributes to the wine's perfumed nose and complex palate structure, creating a more elegant expression while maintaining Barossa's signature power and intensity.

The wine's rich dark chocolate and spice notes make it perfect for char-grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The plum and dark fruit flavours complement game meats like venison, while the oak-driven finish pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. The wine's intensity and complexity can handle bold flavours like barbecued ribs or slow-cooked beef brisket with smoky elements.

With its exceptional concentration and structure, this wine will continue to develop complexity for many years, likely peaking between 2028-2035. The high-altitude fruit provides excellent tannin backbone for extended ageing, while the oak integration will become more seamless over time. Currently drinking beautifully, it will reward patience as the floral elements integrate further with the dark fruit core, developing tertiary flavours of leather, tobacco, and earth.

Rowland Flat represents the elevated, cooler climate sites within Barossa that are revolutionising the region's reputation for elegance alongside power. These higher vineyards produce Shiraz with more refined aromatics and natural acidity compared to the warmer valley floor sites. The area's combination of altitude, ancient soils, and traditional low-yielding vines creates ideal conditions for premium Shiraz that balances Barossa's characteristic richness with sophisticated structure and longevity.
