This producer has been making reds like this in the Clare Valley for decades. And this shiraz is exactly why they keep getting invited back to every wine show they've ever even walked past. Clare Valley shiraz completely in its element - spicy, full-bodied, generous and dark fruited.

Why do we love this wine?

Rich, generous and completely inviting - dark plum, blackberry, cocoa and mocha on the nose, with liquorice, aniseed and a warm kitchen spice character woven through a fleshy, supple palate. The tannins are fine and perfectly weighted, and the finish is long, balanced and just a little bit addictive. Clare Valley shiraz doing what Clare Valley shiraz does best. At a price that makes grabbing more than one bottle the obvious move.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clare Valley shiraz is renowned for its elegant balance of power and finesse, sitting between the bold intensity of Barossa and the cooler climate restraint of Adelaide Hills. The region's unique terroir produces wines with distinctive spice characters and fine tannin structure, as exemplified in this 2021 vintage with its liquorice, aniseed and warm kitchen spice notes. The cooler nights in Clare Valley help retain natural acidity, creating wines that age gracefully while maintaining their rich, generous fruit character.

The 2021 vintage was generally excellent across South Australia, producing wines with great concentration and balance. This shiraz is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its fleshy, supple palate and perfectly weighted tannins. However, given its full-bodied structure and 95-point rating, it has the backbone to cellar for 8-12 years, during which the mocha and cocoa notes will integrate further and the spice characters will become more complex.

The rich, generous character and fine tannin structure make this shiraz perfect for hearty dishes that can match its intensity. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled ribeye steak, or rich game dishes where the wine's dark plum and blackberry flavours complement the meat's richness. The liquorice and spice notes also pair beautifully with Middle Eastern cuisine, particularly dishes with warm spices like cinnamon and star anise.

The 95 points and Gold Medal from Melbourne Royal Wine Awards reflect this shiraz's exceptional quality and typicity of Clare Valley style. The judges would have recognised the wine's perfect balance between rich fruit concentration and elegant structure, plus its authentic expression of regional character. The 'addictive' finish mentioned in tasting notes suggests remarkable length and complexity that sets it apart from typical commercial shiraz at this price point.

The 'Dangerous Value' designation indicates this wine punches well above its price point, offering quality typically found in much more expensive bottles. For collectors, this represents an opportunity to stock up on a high-scoring Clare Valley shiraz that could appreciate in value or simply provide excellent drinking over the coming decade. The combination of 95 points, Gold Medal recognition, and accessible pricing makes it ideal for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term cellaring.
