This is Barossa shiraz with brains as well as brawn - nothing overdone, just flavour that feels both powerful and controlled. Smoothness, complexity and depth all wrapped up in a velvety package. There’s opulence, fruit weight, fine tannins and a hell of a long finish on this one. Halliday’s already dropped 95 points on it - we’ll just say it straight: this is utterly delicious.

Why do we love this wine?

Classic single vineyard Barossa shiraz made from old vines on the western ridge of the valley. Plum, mulberry and clove jump out of the glass upon first whiff. The palate expands even further with vanilla, liquorice, dark chocolate and graphite. The mix of seasoned American and French oak in the maturation has given rise to a mix of sweet spices, vanilla bean and roasted coffee notes that accentuate the high-toned fragrance of the already beautiful shiraz fruit from some seriously kick ass growers. Shiraz lovers, eat your heart out.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the exceptional terroir of Barossa's western ridge through old vine fruit from a single vineyard, which concentrates flavours and adds complexity that younger vines simply cannot achieve. The combination of seasoned American and French oak creates a sophisticated balance between sweet vanilla notes and savoury elements, while the high altitude western ridge location provides the perfect conditions for developing the intense plum and mulberry characteristics that make Barossa Shiraz world-renowned.

The dual oak regime using both American and French barrels creates a layered complexity that enhances rather than masks the fruit character. American oak contributes the vanilla bean and sweet spice notes, while French oak adds the more subtle graphite and roasted coffee elements that provide structure and sophistication. This careful oak integration allows the natural shiraz fruit to shine while adding depth and a long, satisfying finish.

James Halliday's 95-point score places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, representing exceptional quality that's recognised by Australia's most respected wine critic. This rating indicates the wine demonstrates perfect varietal character, excellent balance, and aging potential that will reward cellaring. Combined with the 'Outstanding' rating from James Suckling, this wine represents serious quality that punches well above typical commercial Shiraz offerings.

Serve this medium-bodied Shiraz at 16-18°C to allow the complex aromatics of plum, mulberry and clove to fully express themselves. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and integrate the oak-derived flavours with the fruit. The wine's textured, savoury style pairs beautifully with grilled meats, aged cheeses, or rich stews where the liquorice and dark chocolate notes can complement robust flavours.

As a single vineyard Barossa Shiraz from old vines with excellent critical scores, this wine has substantial cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The combination of concentrated old vine fruit, quality oak treatment, and the wine's natural acidity and tannin structure will allow it to develop additional complexity over time. The graphite and savoury elements will become more pronounced with age, while the fruit flavours will evolve from primary plum and mulberry to more tertiary leather and earth notes.
