Hooley dooley. Old vine mastery. This has all the ethereal complexity that you can only really achieve when harvesting fruit from ancient vines. Gnarled and moody in the glass, as it's allowed to drink in a little air you'll see it evolve and open up to you. Something special to be sure.

Why do we love this wine?

"Reserve" is basically wine-code for "top shelf", if you're still confused, this wine will show you what we're on about. Enthralling stuff. It’s always exciting to come across a wine with such presence in the glass. This has a powerful black fruit core that really ties the wine together, making it full and complete. The aromatic power of the wine walks the walk when it comes to the palate - glossy and full and rich. The fruit profile swarms the mouth; brambly, briary, bunchy. That freshness and focus of the fruit is followed by spice, coffee, and toffee nuance. This is immense in every sense of the word.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reserve designation typically indicates a winery's premium selection, often from their best vineyard blocks or aged longer in oak. This Barossa Shiraz exemplifies reserve quality through its powerful black fruit concentration and complex layering of spice, coffee, and toffee notes. The 'Old Vine' designation suggests grapes from mature vines that naturally produce lower yields but more concentrated, complex flavors that justify the reserve status.

The 2023 vintage represents a very recent release, meaning this Shiraz is showing its youthful power and primary fruit intensity. Barossa Shiraz from recent vintages typically displays bold, upfront black fruit flavors that will evolve over time. The exceptional ratings (95-97 points) suggest 2023 was an outstanding vintage in Barossa, producing wines with both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential.

This wine's rich, full-bodied profile and complex flavor layers make it ideal for hearty, protein-rich dishes. The black cherry and cocoa notes complement grilled red meats, barbecue, and aged cheeses beautifully. The coffee and toffee nuances from oak aging also pair excellently with dishes featuring caramelized or roasted elements, such as slow-braised lamb or beef short ribs with rich, savory sauces.

Barossa Valley is Australia's most prestigious Shiraz region, home to some of the world's oldest continuously producing Shiraz vines dating back to the 1840s. The region's warm climate and diverse soil types create ideal conditions for producing powerful, concentrated Shiraz with the signature 'brambly, briary' characteristics described in this wine. Many Barossa producers maintain old vine vineyards that produce the complex, age-worthy Shiraz that has made the region internationally renowned.

Serve this full-bodied Shiraz at 60-65°F to showcase its complex aromatics and rich palate weight. Decanting for 30-60 minutes will help open up the powerful fruit core and integrate the oak-derived spice and coffee notes. Given its reserve quality and exceptional ratings, this wine has excellent aging potential and should be stored on its side in a cool, dark place where it can develop additional complexity over the next 8-12 years.
