Not all wines are made the same. And certainly not all Barossa shiraz is made the same. It's not easy to make such a dense and complex wine, but when you've got access to fruit from premo vineyards in the Barossa and the know-how to use it - you're one step towards success. Weighty, deep, dark, spicy and smooth - this one's an absolute triumph.

Why do we love this wine?

On any given day, there's probably about 40 bottles of shiraz on our tasting bench. The range on any given day goes from those $10 bottles to $500 or $1000 value. As buyers, you'll always be surprised at the ones that take the medal. This one was the clear winner one particular day, pleasing each and every person that joined the bench for a sip. Juicy, jubey and dense; there's absolutely nothing that you won't love about this wine, and that's a guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2023 Shiraz emerged as the clear winner during professional tastings against approximately 40 other shiraz bottles ranging from $10 to $1000 value. Its exceptional quality earned it a remarkable 95 points from Wine Orbit, demonstrating that outstanding Barossa fruit can deliver premium wine experiences. The combination of juicy, dense fruit character with full-bodied structure represents exceptional value for a wine that impressed every taster.

The flavour profile showcases classic Barossa Shiraz characteristics where ripe blackberry and plum provide the fruit foundation, while dark chocolate notes add complexity and richness. This combination creates a harmonious balance between primary fruit flavours and secondary characteristics that develop during winemaking. The full-bodied palate weight supports these intense flavours, creating a wine that's both immediately approachable and structurally sound for ageing.

The 2023 vintage in Barossa delivered exceptional growing conditions that produced concentrated, well-balanced fruit with optimal ripeness levels. Cool nights and warm days during the growing season allowed for extended hang time, developing complex flavour compounds while maintaining natural acidity. This vintage timing resulted in wines with both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential, explaining why this particular bottling achieved such high ratings across multiple review platforms.

The rich, dense character and dark chocolate notes make this wine perfect for robust red meat dishes like grilled lamb, beef steaks, or slow-cooked braised meats. The blackberry and plum flavours also pair beautifully with game meats, aged cheeses, and dishes featuring earthy mushrooms or herbs. The full-bodied structure can stand up to bold flavours and rich sauces, making it ideal for barbecue season or hearty winter meals.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow the complex flavours to fully express themselves - slightly cooler than room temperature enhances the fruit clarity while maintaining the wine's richness. Decanting for 30-60 minutes before serving will help integrate the flavours and soften any tannins. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place, and while delicious now, this wine's structure suggests it will develop additional complexity over the next 5-8 years.
