Simon Sorby Adams might just be our most popular producer of all time here at Vinomofo. It's no surprise to us that when he turned his hand to pinot noir, he nailed it. Bright, fragrant and displaying great fruit depth, a fantastic value pinot.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This satisfying little pinot takes its name from the peak of Mount Olympus in Athens, where the Adelaide GI grape-grower George’s family originated - Mytikas. Funnily enough, it also means "nose", we reckon that's pretty fitting given the fragrant, vibrant style that the wines are made in. Subtle French oak sets the stage for a fresh, bright pinot displaying plum, red cherry and warming spice. The finish is as long as it is satisfying. You could drink this pinot any time, anywhere and with any one. Super yummy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mytikas is named after the highest peak of Mount Olympus in Greece, honouring winemaker George's family heritage from Athens. Interestingly, 'Mytikas' also translates to 'nose' in Greek, which perfectly captures this wine's aromatic, fragrant character. This personal connection between the producer's ancestry and the wine's expressive style creates a meaningful link between old world heritage and new world winemaking.

Adelaide's Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights provides ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grapes to develop complex flavours while retaining natural acidity. The region's diverse soil types and elevation variations help create the wine's balanced structure, supporting both the bright fruit character and the subtle integration of French oak. This climate produces Pinot Noirs that are more robust than cool-climate styles while maintaining elegance and finesse.

The wine's plum and red cherry flavours with warming spice make it incredibly versatile for food pairing. It complements roasted chicken, duck, or pork beautifully, while the medium body won't overpower salmon or tuna. The subtle French oak and bright acidity also make it excellent with mushroom-based dishes, aged cheeses, or even spiced lamb tagines where the warming spice notes can harmonise with aromatic cooking spices.

The subtle French oak provides structure and complexity without overwhelming the delicate Pinot Noir fruit. French oak typically imparts more refined, spicy notes compared to American oak, complementing the wine's natural cherry and plum flavours while adding vanilla and toast nuances. This restrained approach allows the varietal character to shine through while providing the tannin structure needed for the wine's satisfying, long finish.

The 93-point Wine Showcase rating and 'Dangerous Value' recognition reflect the wine's exceptional quality-to-price ratio and technical excellence. Critics likely praised its authentic Pinot Noir expression, balanced integration of oak, and the producer's skill in crafting a wine that's both approachable and complex. The 'Mofo Fav Producer' rating suggests Sorby Adams has established a reputation for consistently delivering wines that punch above their weight class.
