Moody, dark, swirling black fruits sit right at the core of this quintessentially Barossan beast. A smattering of red and blue fruits provide freshness and a little lift to what is otherwise very serious business...

Why do we love this wine?

There is no mistaking a St Hallett classic - when it comes to shiraz, and when it comes to Barossa, they don't muck about. The Sacred Ground is an old favourite among the 'big and bold' faithful, and this iteration is no departure from that well earned reputation. Rich, ripe, chocolate, earthy and opulent. Little hints of cedar and tobacco sit deftly around determined, full throttle fruit density. St Hallett at their best - unashamedly broad and imposing while remaining stylish, complex, and relinquishing no ground when it comes to sophistication.

Frequently Asked Questions

St Hallett's Sacred Ground represents the quintessential Barossa style - uncompromisingly bold yet sophisticated. The 2022 vintage showcases the region's ability to produce intensely concentrated fruit while maintaining elegance through subtle cedar and tobacco notes. This approach reflects Barossa's unique terroir where old vines and warm climate create wines with exceptional depth and complexity that can age gracefully for decades.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its rich chocolate and dark fruit flavours to fully express themselves. The wine's robust tannin structure and earthy complexity make it perfect for grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or hearty winter stews. Consider decanting for 30-60 minutes to soften the tannins and enhance the integration of its bold fruit and oak elements.

The 95-point Wine Orbit rating and 94-point Ken Gargett score reflect exceptional winemaking and vintage conditions. These scores place it among Australia's elite Shiraz wines, indicating outstanding balance between power and finesse. St Hallett's Five Red Star Halliday winery rating confirms their consistent excellence, while the 'Killer Vintage' designation suggests 2022 was particularly favourable for Barossa Shiraz production.

While delicious now, this full-bodied Shiraz has the structure and concentration to develop beautifully over 8-12 years. The wine's dense fruit core and firm tannins will gradually integrate, allowing the cedar and tobacco notes to become more prominent. Current drinking reveals its youthful power and primary fruit, while cellaring will reward patience with increased complexity and silky texture development.

The 2022 vintage in Barossa delivered ideal conditions for premium Shiraz production, evidenced by the 'Killer Vintage' designation. Cool nights preserved natural acidity while warm days concentrated flavours, creating wines with exceptional balance between power and freshness. This vintage showcases the classic Barossa profile of rich, opulent fruit with excellent aging potential, making it a standout year for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
