Winter strawberry and under ripe raspberry on the palate immediately, but there is a bit of darker, richer fruit tucked in behind it. Mulberry and bramble, and a bit of vanillin oak presence, too.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a really smart little wine. A lot of red fruit on display, some rich, ripe raspberry and strawberries lead into more densely laden cranberry and red cherry. The tannin is fine grain and delicate - pretty but textural and providing nice, subtle grip. While this is certifiable cool climate, it doesn't want for weight. The palate is satisfying and broad with classic cool climate acidity giving it focus and drive through a fine boned, prickly finish that lasts and lasts.

All the colour and aromatic boxes are ticked here – garnet in the glass and crushed crimson fruit wafting out of it, a little herb garden note adding background earthiness to a fresh swirl of Morello cherry juice as you taste. It’s here a subtle spice comes into play – clove and a faint curry leaf, with a sense of weak bush tea tannins to tie together a moreish finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

While maintaining the elegant, lighter style characteristic of cool climate Pinot Noir, this wine delivers surprising weight and satisfaction on the palate. The fine-grained tannins provide delicate texture without overwhelming the fruit, creating a perfect balance between finesse and substance. This demonstrates how skilled winemaking can achieve complexity in a light-bodied wine, making it accessible yet sophisticated enough for serious wine enthusiasts.

The consistent high scores (ranging from 90-94 points) across multiple respected publications reflect the wine's exceptional quality and broad appeal. Critics have recognised its textbook expression of cool climate Pinot Noir characteristics - bright acidity, elegant fruit expression, and fine tannin structure. The Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine particularly highlights how this wine stands out in competitive tastings against other premium Pinot Noirs.

The wine's bright acidity and delicate tannin structure make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that complement its red fruit profile. Classic pairings include roasted duck, salmon, or mushroom-based dishes that won't overpower its elegant character. The earthy undertones and fine-boned finish also make it excellent with aged cheeses or herb-crusted lamb, where the wine's subtle grip can stand up to richer flavours without competing.

Victoria's cool climate regions are renowned for producing Pinot Noir with exceptional balance between fruit intensity and natural acidity. This wine showcases the region's ability to ripen Pinot Noir fully while maintaining freshness, evident in the rich raspberry and strawberry flavours coupled with that persistent, prickly finish. The cool nights and moderate growing season allow for the development of complex flavours while preserving the variety's inherent elegance.

This wine is beautifully balanced for immediate enjoyment, with its fruit-forward character and accessible tannin structure making it delicious now. However, the fine-grained tannins and excellent acidity suggest it has the structure to develop additional complexity over 3-5 years in proper cellar conditions. The lasting finish indicates good ageing potential, where the primary fruit flavours will evolve into more savoury, earthy characteristics typical of mature Pinot Noir.
