This pinot just absolutely hums with energy. As detailed as it is delicious, it’s elegant, expressive and purely Yarra Valley - think red currant, strawberry and cherry pie, all wrapped in super-fine tannins and tasteful French oak. A Yarra drinker's dream.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a Yarra Valley pinot with the precise prettiness that we've all come to expect from - huge call incoming - Australia's greatest pinot region. Grown in the luscious Yarra Valley hills of Gruyere, from the ever-popular MV6 clone, and matured for 10 months in French oak, it’s a wine that nails the balance between purity and complexity. The nose is singing - raspberry, cherry, poached rhubarb and a cool note of spearmint, with oak spice drifting through. The palate is built on bright acidity and soft, powdery tannins. Red currants, hibiscus and baked cherry pie. It’s layered, lifted and built to charm - a perfect match for mushroom gnocchi, but equally at home as the sole star of the show. You could absolutely drink now or watch it evolve over the next 5-6 years - the choice is yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MV6 clone is one of the most celebrated Pinot Noir clones in Australia, originally sourced from Burgundy's prestigious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. It's prized for producing wines with exceptional aromatic intensity and elegant structure, which explains the singing nose of raspberry, cherry and spearmint in this Yering Lane bottling. This clone thrives in the Yarra Valley's cool climate, delivering the precise balance between fruit purity and complexity that defines great Australian Pinot Noir.

The 10-month French oak maturation adds subtle spice and structural complexity without overwhelming the delicate Pinot Noir fruit. French oak is preferred for Pinot Noir because it imparts more refined tannins and elegant vanilla notes compared to American oak, while allowing the wine's natural acidity and fruit flavours to shine through. This careful oak integration creates the layered texture and powdery tannins that make this wine so approachable now, yet capable of evolving beautifully over 5-6 years.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate, diverse soils and elevation variations create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, mimicking the terroir of Burgundy more closely than any other Australian region. The Gruyere hills where these grapes are grown benefit from cool morning fogs and warm afternoons, allowing for slow, even ripening that preserves the grape's natural acidity while developing complex flavours. This climate produces the precise prettiness and lifted character that has established the Yarra Valley's reputation as Australia's Burgundy.

The wine's bright acidity and soft tannins make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with earthy dishes like the suggested mushroom gnocchi where the herbaceous notes complement umami flavours beautifully. The cherry and rhubarb characteristics pair excellently with duck, salmon, or roasted chicken, while the textured, savoury style handles aged cheeses and charcuterie with ease. The violet and herbaceous elements also make it a natural match for dishes featuring fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary.

This wine offers the delightful flexibility of drinking beautifully now while having the structure to reward patience over 5-6 years. Currently, you'll enjoy the vibrant fruit expression and charming immediacy, with the cherry pie and hibiscus flavours at their most expressive. With cellaring, the wine will develop more complex secondary characters, the tannins will further integrate, and the oak spice will meld seamlessly with the fruit, creating a more sophisticated and nuanced drinking experience.
