Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Lime splice, lemon curd and nectarine on the nose tells you we're somewhere in or around the Yarra. A juicy palate of rockmelon, pink grapefruit and just enough of that buttery, toasty, oaky richness. A little saline twang keeps things fresh, while the creamy mouthfeel adds just the right touch of indulgence. Barrel-fermented, mostly through malo, and aged in French oak, this is layered, textural, and ridiculously well made for the price. If you're unsure where your chardy loyalties lie - big and buttery or lean and racy - this sits perfectly in the middle. Elegant, balanced, and damn delicious.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Chardonnay strikes a perfect balance between the two dominant Australian Chardonnay styles. While it undergoes malolactic fermentation and French oak ageing for that creamy, buttery richness, it maintains freshness through a saline mineral backbone. The winemaker has crafted a textural wine that offers the best of both worlds - indulgent mouthfeel without overwhelming oakiness, and vibrant acidity without being austere.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate is crucial for producing elegant Chardonnays with natural acidity and complex flavour development. The region's diurnal temperature variation allows grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness, which explains the wine's lime and citrus characteristics alongside riper stone fruit notes. This terroir influence creates the mineral saline quality that keeps the wine balanced despite its rich, barrel-fermented treatment.

Barrel fermentation involves fermenting the grape juice directly in French oak barrels rather than stainless steel tanks. This process integrates the oak more seamlessly into the wine, creating subtle vanilla and toast notes while adding textural complexity through lees contact. The result is a more sophisticated integration of oak flavours compared to simply ageing finished wine in barrels, contributing to this wine's layered, creamy mouthfeel.

These dual 93-point scores from respected Australian wine critics indicate exceptional quality and consistency in winemaking. James Halliday's rating system is particularly stringent, with 93 points representing wines of outstanding quality that punch well above their price point. The convergence of these high scores suggests this producer has achieved remarkable value, creating a wine that rivals much more expensive Yarra Valley Chardonnays.

The wine's medium body and balanced acidity make it versatile with food, particularly excelling with dishes that match its textural richness. Roasted chicken with herbs, pan-seared scallops, or creamy pasta dishes would complement the buttery oak elements, while the citrus and mineral notes pair beautifully with fresh seafood or goat's cheese. The saline quality also makes it excellent with oysters or other shellfish.
