This comes from one of Tasmania's best producers - genuine elite territory. Small operation means limited production, which translates to genuinely hard-to-get bottles. When you find them, you grab them. We've got stone fruit and citrus zest rolling through a creamy, nutty base - all carried by that trademark Tassie acidity that keeps it crisp and focused. One that's just as worthy of analysis as it is of pure, unthinking enjoyment!

Why do we love this wine?

'The Apple Isle' is building a serious reputation beyond just beautiful bubbles and powerful pinots. Chardonnays like this prove Tassie's cool-climate advantages - retaining natural acid and brightness even after plenty of oak treatment and creamy texture-building techniques that would flatten warmer-climate fruit. Pale gold with flickers of green in the glass, the colour somewhat belies the concentration of this wine. White peach, lemon curd, struck flint and toasted cashew aromatics. A refined, elegant palate with vibrant acidity layering stone fruit, citrus zest and subtle oak spice. Perfect with scallops, roast chook or a rich risotto, it’s drinking beautifully now but will keep building for the next eight years. Limited release, small volume - you know what to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate allows Chardonnay to retain natural acidity and brightness even after extensive oak treatment and lees stirring techniques that would overwhelm warmer-climate fruit. This creates wines with both richness and elegance - a balance that's difficult to achieve in hotter regions where acidity drops quickly during ripening. The island's maritime influence and consistent temperatures produce Chardonnays with mineral complexity and age-worthy structure.

The creamy, textural elements suggest malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact, possibly combined with barrel fermentation and regular stirring (batonnage). These techniques add richness and a silky mouthfeel while the struck flint and toasted cashew notes indicate quality French oak maturation. The fact that Tasmania's cool climate can handle these intensive techniques without losing freshness demonstrates the region's winemaking potential.

While drinking beautifully now, this Chardonnay will continue developing complexity over the next eight years, reaching peak maturity around 2028-2030. Cool-climate Chardonnays like this develop honeyed, nutty characters with age while maintaining their citrus backbone. The wine's natural acidity and oak integration suggest it will gracefully evolve, gaining weight and secondary flavours without losing its elegant structure.

The wine's medium body and oak spice complement rich, creamy dishes like lobster thermidor, pan-seared scallops with cauliflower puree, or mushroom risotto. The citrus zest and stone fruit flavours also pair beautifully with roasted chicken with herbs, grilled salmon, or aged hard cheeses. The key is matching the wine's weight and complexity with similarly substantial dishes that won't be overwhelmed by its oak influence.

Small-volume Tasmanian Chardonnays from boutique producers often represent exceptional vineyard sites and careful winemaking that can't be replicated on a large scale. The combination of Tasmania's emerging reputation, the wine's age-worthy structure, and limited availability creates both drinking pleasure and potential collectibility. These wines showcase Tasmania's evolution from a cool-climate curiosity to a serious fine wine region.
