Pirramimma can't put a foot wrong. Full-bodied and fruit-focused with a super lengthy finish and a long life ahead of it. This is the kind of chardonnay everyone needs a case of in the cellar.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

We don’t need to tell you about Pirramimma, do we? By now if you’re a regular of Vinomofo, we’re betting that you’ve tried a drop or two from this legendary winery. To say their red wines have been fan favourites would be to severely understate the cult following of this brand. Yes mofo, their white wines are truly as iconic as their reds. This is as abundant as you might expect (or crave), abound with notes of toast, crème brûlée, hazelnut and ripe peaches. If chardonnay is a red wine lover’s white, then this has got to be the one.

"The Heritage tag dates back to the 13th century and the early days of the family history. It is early days for this wine as well, of course, but 2024 is looking like another impressive vintage for McLaren Vale. Fermentation was with “a selection of French oak”. A gleaming yellow colour, we have attractive tropical notes here, delightfully fresh, with passionfruit and pineapple evident, along with a touch of stonefruits. There is a pleasing creamy texture and fine acidity through to a drying finish. A wine of medium length, we should see improvement over the next four to five years." - Ken Gargett

" A wine that provides compelling evidence that in the right conditions and year, McLaren Vale can turn out something special with a variety that it is not generally associated with. In this case a chardonnay. A little malolactic fermentation has brought texture and substance to the palate. White peach and melon with a subtle toasty background creates quite a wine for drinking in the short term. Cellar: 6 years" - Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

Frequently Asked Questions

This Chardonnay showcases the rich, textural style that appeals to red wine enthusiasts through its medium-bodied weight and complex flavour profile. The wine displays notes of toast, crème brûlée, and hazelnut, which come from oak treatment and malolactic fermentation - techniques that add body and creamy textures similar to what red wine drinkers appreciate. McLaren Vale's warm climate also contributes to the wine's fuller, more substantial character compared to lighter, more acidic Chardonnay styles.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create ideal conditions for producing rich, textural Chardonnays like this Heritage edition. The region's warm days and cool sea breezes from the nearby Gulf St Vincent help develop the ripe peach flavours while maintaining good acidity. The area's red clay and sand soils contribute to the wine's medium body and mineral complexity, allowing Pirramimma to craft a Chardonnay that balances fruit richness with structural elegance.

The wine's toast and crème brûlée notes make it perfect for rich, creamy dishes like lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with herb butter, or mushroom risotto. Its hazelnut characteristics complement dishes with nuts or brown butter sauces, while the ripe peach flavours pair beautifully with pork tenderloin or grilled seafood. The medium body and spice elements also make it versatile enough for Asian fusion cuisine, particularly dishes with coconut or mild curry spices.

The Heritage Limited Edition designation indicates this is a special release showcasing Pirramimma's premium winemaking techniques and possibly their finest vineyard blocks. Limited editions typically feature enhanced oak treatment, extended lees contact, or fruit from older vines, which explains the complex toast and hazelnut characteristics. This special bottling represents the winery's commitment to crafting exceptional Chardonnay that honours their heritage while pushing quality boundaries, making it a collector-worthy expression of their white wine expertise.

Serve this Chardonnay slightly chilled at 10-12°C to best appreciate its complex aromatics and textural richness - too cold will mute the toast and hazelnut notes. While the 2024 vintage is drinking beautifully now, this style of Chardonnay can develop additional complexity over 2-3 years when stored properly in a cool, dark place. Decanting isn't necessary, but allowing the wine to warm slightly in the glass will reveal its full spectrum of citrus, melon, and spice characteristics.
