Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Green apple, French oak and fresh cream on the nose, the palate opens up with white peach, melon and slightly bready notes. This wine has seen some malolactic fermentation and the richness, creaminess and texture created by this process allow natural acid, zesty citrus and oak-spice to really get to work. A very well-thought-out chardonnay that ticks all the boxes without breaking the bank. This is a smart pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, creating Chardonnays with natural acidity and elegant structure that mainland regions often struggle to achieve. The island's maritime influence helps retain the green apple and citrus characteristics while still developing the rich, creamy textures from malolactic fermentation. This creates a perfect balance between Old World restraint and New World richness that Tasmanian Chardonnay is becoming renowned for.

Malolactic fermentation converts sharp malic acid into softer lactic acid, creating the creamy, buttery texture and slightly bready notes you'll taste in this wine. This process doesn't just add richness - it actually allows the wine's natural acidity and oak spice to shine through more clearly by providing a smoother backdrop. The result is a more complex, food-friendly wine that maintains freshness while gaining depth and mouthfeel.

Cult producer status indicates that Russell & Suitor has developed a devoted following among wine enthusiasts and critics for consistently producing exceptional wines, often in limited quantities. These producers typically focus on quality over quantity, using meticulous winemaking techniques and often sourcing from premium vineyard sites. For consumers, this means you're getting access to wines that punch well above their price point and represent excellent value from a respected name.

The wine's creamy texture and oak influence make it perfect for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor, pan-seared scallops, or salmon with hollandaise sauce. The natural acidity cuts through creamy pasta dishes and risottos beautifully, while the full body can stand up to roasted chicken or pork tenderloin. The green apple and citrus notes also complement soft cheeses like brie or camembert perfectly.

The 2024 vintage in Tasmania benefited from ideal growing conditions with a warm, dry summer that allowed for optimal ripening while maintaining the region's signature acidity. This vintage is particularly exciting as it represents Tasmania's continued emergence as a premium cool-climate wine region, with producers like Russell & Suitor demonstrating the island's potential for world-class Chardonnay. Early releases from 2024 are showing exceptional balance and aging potential.
