There's nothing quite like a bestselling, single-vineyard, Yarra Valley chardonnay to get you through the cooler months. There's a catch, though (there's always a catch) - stocks are seriously limited.

Why do we love this wine?

A brilliant wine. Chardonnay that feels premium in every way. The weight. The length. The way it changes and evolves as it breathes a little. The sheer amount of complexity in every glass. We're decidedly in cooler fruits here; green apples, pears, green grapes, some grapefruit, plentiful citrus. That fruit is stretched across some tightly wound, nervy acidity that snakes it's way up the palate to eventually define the long, fantastic finish. This is a wine that will have you coming back for more and, on that front, I'm sorry to say we'll have to disappoint you, Mofo: this will sell out quick.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Warramunda Estate Chardonnay showcases a distinctly cooler climate expression that contrasts beautifully with Australia's traditionally warmer, richer Chardonnay styles. The Yarra Valley's temperate conditions allow for extended ripening, creating those precise green apple and citrus notes rather than tropical fruit flavours. The wine's nervy acidity and mineral backbone reflect the region's ability to produce Chardonnays with Burgundian-like elegance while maintaining Australian fruit intensity.

The 2024 vintage in the Yarra Valley benefited from ideal growing conditions that allowed for slow, even ripening - crucial for premium Chardonnay development. This extended hang time enables the development of complex flavour compounds while retaining natural acidity, explaining why this wine shows such remarkable evolution in the glass. The vintage's success is reflected in the wine's 95-point Wine Orbit rating, indicating exceptional quality that captures the region's terroir perfectly.

Serve this Chardonnay at 10-12°C to preserve its vibrant acidity and allow the complex aromatics to unfold gradually. The wine's description emphasises how it evolves as it breathes, so decanting or simply allowing it to open in the glass for 15-20 minutes will reveal additional layers of flavour. Pair it with dishes that complement its full-bodied nature - think roasted chicken with herbs, creamy seafood risotto, or aged hard cheeses that won't overpower its elegant fruit profile.

Single vineyard designation means all grapes come from one specific site, allowing the wine to express the unique characteristics of that particular terroir - the combination of soil, slope, aspect, and microclimate. This focused approach typically results in greater complexity and distinctiveness compared to blended regional wines. For Warramunda Estate, their single vineyard selection ensures consistent quality and allows the winemaker to showcase the specific personality of their best Chardonnay block, contributing to the wine's premium character and 95-point rating.

While this Chardonnay is drinking beautifully now with its vibrant fruit and crisp acidity, premium Yarra Valley Chardonnays like this often develop additional complexity over 3-5 years. The wine's full-bodied structure and tight acidity provide the backbone for graceful ageing, where the citrus notes may evolve into more honeyed characteristics while maintaining freshness. However, given the limited availability mentioned in the description, you might want to secure multiple bottles - some for immediate enjoyment and others for cellaring.
