Why do we love this wine?

This one’s built on some seriously old bones. We’re talking 95% Barossa muscat blanc à petits grains from vines pushing 170 years (yep, oldest in the country), with a splash of sauvignon blanc (5%) thrown in to dial up the aromatics. Old vines, young attitude - this is all about drinking it fresh and lively. The nose keeps things clean and subtle: soft yellow fruits, a flick of grassiness and just enough intrigue to pull you in. Then the palate kicks on. Zippy lemon and lime lead the charge, backed by hints of pineapple, ginger and a gentle tropical whisper. The acidity is crisp and refreshing, keeping everything tight, juicy and dangerously easy to drink. Youthful, vibrant and bursting with flavour - proof that even 170-year-old vines can still party.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are Australia's oldest muscat blanc à petits grains vines at 170 years old, predating phylloxera and representing a direct genetic link to European winemaking heritage. Old vines like these produce naturally lower yields with more concentrated flavours, as their deep root systems access unique mineral profiles from decades of soil exploration. The age creates complexity and depth that simply cannot be replicated in younger plantings, making this wine a living piece of Australian viticultural history.

The 5% sauvignon blanc addition serves as an aromatic amplifier, lifting the wine's fragrance profile and adding that distinctive grassy, herbaceous character that complements muscat's softer fruit tones. This small percentage technique is common in premium blending, where a minority variety can dramatically enhance the majority component without overwhelming it. The sauvignon blanc also contributes to the wine's crisp acidity structure, creating better balance and ensuring the wine drinks fresh and lively rather than heavy or cloying.

Barossa's warm continental climate with cool nights creates ideal conditions for developing the wine's vibrant citrus and tropical fruit character while maintaining crucial acidity. The region's ancient soils, particularly around old vine sites, contribute the mineral backbone that gives structure to the bright fruit flavours. This climate allows the muscat to retain its delicate aromatics while developing enough body to support the medium-bodied palate weight, creating a wine that's both refreshing and substantial.

The wine's crisp acidity and citrus-driven profile make it excellent with seafood, particularly grilled prawns, fish tacos, or fresh oysters where the mineral notes can shine. The subtle tropical hints pair beautifully with Asian cuisine, especially Thai salads or Vietnamese fresh spring rolls, while the medium body can handle richer dishes like roasted chicken with herbs. The ginger notes in the wine create natural synergy with spiced dishes, making it versatile for both casual and more sophisticated dining occasions.

This wine is designed for immediate enjoyment and showcases the 'young attitude' philosophy despite its ancient vine heritage. The fresh, zippy character and vibrant fruit flavours are at their peak now, and extended cellaring would likely diminish the very qualities that make it special. While the old vines provide complexity, the winemaking style emphasises freshness and drinkability, so consume within 2-3 years to experience the wine as intended - lively, juicy, and bursting with youthful energy.
